Android MTPFS and VPN connections are also supported

Jerry Bezencon had the pleasure of announcing on March 31 the immediate availability for download and testing of the final release of his Linux Lite 2.4 computer operating system based on an LTS (Long Term Support) version of the Ubuntu Linux distribution. The new Linux Lite 2.4 come with a great number of features that we’ve listed below for your viewing pleasure.

Highlights of Linux Lite 2.4 include built-in support for Microsoft’s exFAT file system, which means that disk drives or USB sticks that are formatted with the exFAT file system will be automatically mounted, so you can read and write data on them, built-in support for mounting the MTP file system of Android devices, as well as support for VPN (Virtual Private Network) connections, and built-in NTP (Network Time Protocol) daemon.

Additionally, support for LVM (Logical Volume Manager) has been added, the Thunar file manager has been updated to the latest version which supports thumbnail previews, new tools have been added (Install Updates, Lite Software, Lite Tweaks, Network Share Settings), new wallpapers and a Terminal theme were added, built-in support for Bluetooth has been implemented, and Mugshot app has been added, so you can easily update personal details.

“With the release of Linux Lite 2.4 Final, we continue to evolve into a fully featured, lightweight free operating system,” says Jerry Bezencon, the creator of Linux Lite. “Major announcement - there is now an upgrade path on Linux Lite from within the LTS series for each release, update your current install from now until April 2016 with one click.”

Of course, there are numerous other enhancements and small improvements implemented in this major update of the Linux Lite operating system, such as the ability to upgrade from within the LTS series of each release with a single click of a mouse. Obsolete PPAs have been removed, the Lite Welcome dialog has been updated, as well as the Help Manual and WhiskerMenu, and Shutdown/Reboot options have been added to the Live CD.

Last but not least, a bug has been fixed in the syslog tool related to auth.log not logging, disk encryption now works during installation, the Backups tool will no longer pop up randomly, the Windows key (a.k.a. Super key) has been assigned for the Menu, but won’t work in the Live CD, and the Screensaver and Screen Off functions have been disabled by default.
