The Manjaro development team, through Philip Müller, was proud to announce recently that the upcoming Manjaro Linux 0.8.13 operating system would ditch the regular Calamares installer in favor of the another one called Thus, which will boast a wide range of improvements.

The Thus installer of Manjaro Linux 0.8.13 comes now with support for LUKS (Linux Unified Key Setup) disk encryption in advanced mode (manual partitioning), optional bootloader installation in all modes, numerous string changes, a tweaked user interface as well as PEPified code.

“What the heck? Thus is back? Well, Calamares is not so feature complete as Thus currently is. Sure we will have still some issues and bugs in this new rebooted graphical gtk/python installer. Old habits die hard,” says Philip Müller on behalf of the Manjaro development team.

Manjaro Linux 0.8.13 is now available for download and testing

While Manjaro Linux 0.8.13 will be the last update for the stable 0.8.x series of the distribution, it will come with a great number of new features that have been planned for the 0.9.0 release, including the Xfce 4.12 and KDE Plasma 5 desktop environments, as well as the latest Linux 3.18 kernel and all the upstream updates from the Arch Linux operating system.

Manjaro Linux 0.9.0 (Bellatrix), which is now in heavy development, will include the Calamares installer with all the new features that have been implemented in the Thus installer for Manjaro Linux 0.8.13, codenamed Ascella.

Well, the good news is that you will be able to download and test the new features implemented in Manjaro’s graphical installer today by downloading the Manjaro Linux Xfce 0.8.13 distribution from Softpedia. Live CDs are available for both 64 and 32-bit computer platforms.
