Bella OS 2.2 was announced recently, based on the upstream packages of the Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system. The Bella OS distribution aims to be a beautiful and user-friendly Linux OS tailored for end-users.

Bella OS is in fact based on the Xubuntu Linux operating system, as it uses a highly customized Xfce desktop environment, which includes a transparent panel with a modern Application Menu and a dock (application launcher) based on Plank. However, the distro uses the Xfce 4.10 desktop.

Bella OS 2.2 is dubbed Launch Edition and it is the first major release of the distribution since the project was founded at the beginning of April 2015. The design of the OS is inspired by several modern operating systems, but it tries to declutter and beautify the desktop.

"Launch release version 2.2 is now live," said the Bella OS developers. "Comes complete with a curated suite of high-quality web, office, and entertainment applications; built from Xubuntu LTS/Debian Linux."

Contains modern and open-source Linux applications

The latest version of the Bella OS distribution contains modern and open-source Linux applications, such as the Mozilla Firefox web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird email client, VLC Media Player, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, and the entire LibreOffice office suite.

In addition, the Banshee music player, GIMP image editor, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, KeePassX password manager, Ubuntu Software Center, GUFW firewall manager, and Pidgin IM client, and Transmission torrent downloader applications are also installed.
