The community is ecstatic about this great upgrade

Ubuntu Touch users are reporting significant battery improvements after the last major update that was released by Canonical at the end of last week.

Canonical published a new update for Ubuntu Touch just a few days ago, and it looks like it's one of the best so far. It doesn't bring any new major features, just a number of fixes and other improvements. Among those improvements, there are also a few that affect the battery life. From what the community is saying, the battery life is now much, much better. Some users even report a 50% improvement, which is actually huge.

Mobile operating systems get updates all the time, but they seldom have such a great impact, especially when it's about the battery. This can be improved, but not by that much, and it's probably the reason the community is reacting so vigorously. A few users said that they went from one day to two days of continuous use, and that's no measly thing.

Battery problems are now a thing of the past

Now that Canonical has its operating system on phones that can be bought by anyone, their responsibility has increased tenfold. They are no longer making an OS for a dedicated and small part of the community that is more than willing to forego good battery life; they now have new users who might not be as lenient.

The battery improvements seem to be mostly visible on Bq devices, but they also apply to Nexus 4 users. In any case, if you haven't updated your Ubuntu phone just yet, this might be a good time to do it.

On a separate note, it's also worth pointing out that Canonical also introduced phased updates, which means that system updates like this last one won't arrive for everyone at the same time. In this way, if a problem is spotted, not all the community is affected at once.
