Ubuntu MATE 15.04 is now available for Raspberry Pi 2, which means that users can download it and use it just like any other OS for this platform.

Raspberry Pi 2 has received a lot of support from the community, and there are already a large number of distros available for it. The Linux community has recognized that Ubuntu MATE is a very light OS that would work great on Raspberry Pi 2, so now we have a new compatible version of it.

"Rohith Madhavan has made an Ubuntu MATE 15.04 image for the Raspberry Pi 2 which you can download or build yourself. The image is functional and based on the regular Ubuntu armhf base, and not the new Snappy Core, which means that the installation procedure for applications is the same as that for the regular desktop version, ie using apt-get," reads the announcement made on the Ubuntu MATE blog.

The developers also explained that a Class 6 or Class 10 microSDHC card should be used for best performance, the f2fs filesystem is recommended, and users need to use at least a 4GB microSD card.

You can download the Ubuntu 15.04 Raspberry Pi 2 image from the same website (link in the third paragraph) and make sure that you take extra care of the writing process.
