Canonical was proud to announce today, May 11, that they would collaborate with some of the biggest names in the technology industry in order to bring more smart devices powered by the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu.

The announcement came straight from this year's IoT World event that takes place these days in San Francisco, USA, between May 12 and 13. Canonical, Microsoft, Acer, DatArt, and GE’s FirstBuild will collaborate to bring you more IoT innovation in your house (read: smart devices).

Softpedia reported earlier today that GE Appliances was the first to announce that they had created the world's first commercially available IoT-enabled refrigerator powered by Ubuntu Snappy Core and dubbed ChillHub.

"They will demonstrate the latest in highly innovative, next-generation connected devices for the home but also illustrate how the industry at-large is behind 'Snappy' Ubuntu Core as the natural choice when designing and deploying industrial and commercial IoT projects," says Canonical.

Canonical will also join forces with Microsoft and DatArt to show the world how Internet of Things (IoT), Docker, Cloud, Machine Learning, and Big Data can integrate with Ubuntu Snappy Apps, Juju Charms, and DeviceHive, as well as how easy is to set up industrial predictive maintenance in no time and without too much hassle.

Furthermore, Canonical's collaboration with Acer will bring a wide variety of innovative IoT devices, such as the Acer aBeing One cross-platform smart center, which will be showcased at the IoT World event and incorporates the Ubuntu Snappy Core and Acer Open C&C Platform 3.0 (AOP 3.0) technologies and is designed to help companies control their IoT devices, as well as to build up and share intelligence.

The future is here and you can see it with your own eyes at the IoT World event if you are in San Francisco, USA, between May 12 and 13. Make sure that you visit Canonical's stand (545) to learn more about the latest innovations in "Snappy" Ubuntu Core, which will be used by more and more companies to power smart, connected devices, including drones, robots, home appliances, mobile base stations, IoT home hubs, industrial gateways, and network switches.
