Today, May 12, we are happy to inform all Ubuntu Phone users that the Ubuntu Touch developers have just announced the release of the OTA 3.5 update for Canonical's mobile operating system.

The Ubuntu Touch OTA 3.5 update will be pushed to Ubuntu Phone users worldwide starting today, but in phases during the next 24 hours. Therefore, you should check your Ubuntu-powered smartphone for updates and apply them if available.

"We have just released another Ubuntu Touch update to the stable channel - this time marked as OTA-3.5," says Łukasz Zemczak. "This release is still based on the ubuntu-rtm/14.09 series and only includes a batch of hotfixes for the important issues spotted in the last OTA."

Here's what's new in Ubuntu Touch OTA 3.5

First of all, we should mention that the OTA 3.5 update is still based on the Ubuntu 14.10 branch, and as we reported last week, the next major OTA, which should arrive at the end of the month, will be based on Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet).

Over 15 bugs have been squashed in this update for Ubuntu Touch, including 3G issues with certain mobile carriers, calendar sync problems, an ubuntu-keyboard crash, issues with enabling location, an indicator-network crash, and some battery drain issues caused by the Airplane mode.

Additionally, the accuracy of the location services has been improved, it is now possible to create multiple Telepathy accounts, some routing problems were patched, the location services' settings are now kept after a reboot, and some suspend problems were resolved.

Last but not least, there's a fix for an issue where phone calls were hanged up when there was a call waiting, a reboot loops issue that were reported by many has been repaired by disabling Upstart logging, a problem with Ubuntu Store Scope updates that made the respective Scopes disappear from favorites was patched, and there's a fix for a bug that occurred when listing click updates for newer frameworks than the ones supported by the device.

All Ubuntu Phone users must update as soon as possible

To apply the update on your Ubuntu phone device, access System Settings, scroll down, press the 'About this phone' button, scroll down again, and press the 'Check for updates' button. If the update is available, install it. A phone reboot will be required after installation.
