After having introduced you to the Lemon Pi single computer board, today we are happy to present Tessel 2, a development platform created by Technical Machine and designed from the ground up to be embedded in a product.

Tessel 2 is the next-generation Tessel open-source microcontroller that is programmable in JavaScript (Rust and other languages will also be supported), compatible with Node.js and io.js, and it offers incredibly reliable 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, two USB ports, and a 10/100 Ethernet port.

It is FCC and CE certified, runs Linux built on OpenWRT, supports the WPA, WEP, WPA2-PSK, and WPA2-Enterprise security algorithms for IEEE 802.11 wireless networks, and supports board customization options.

Among some technical specifications, we can mention that Tessel 2 boasts a 580MHz Mediatek MT7620n CPU, with 64MB DDR2 RAM, 16 pins GPIO, 7 of which support analog in, and 32MB Flash. Additional hardware capabilities are supported through Tessel Modules.

The Tessel 2 development platform costs $35 (€32), and it is available for pre-order right now from the Technical Machine's website, where you will find all the details you need about the product. Shipping is estimated for August of 2015.
