On June 25, Paul Davis from the Ardour project had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download of the Ardour 4.1 DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software, a major release that adds new functionality and fixes bugs.

According to the release notes, which have been attached at the end of the article for reference, Ardour 4.1 is here to add several new and attractive features like input gain control, capture- or playback-only device support for ALSA and Coreaudio sound servers, Windows assembler metering support, and click-free changes to processor meter and order position.

Furthermore, it introduces many improvements to the user interface, such as waveform rendering, support for HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) displays, relative snap, tap tempo, remove time, a brand-new 0dBFS peak meter, a plugin parameter reset button, X-run counter in status bar, a stationary playhead option, layering changes, the ability to delete MIDI Program Changes using the DEL key on your keyboard, sample-accurate fall-off to peak meters, and automation-lane log-scale parameter support.

"The Ardour project is pleased to announce the release of 4.1. This release contains several new features, both internally and in the user interface, and a slew of bug fixes worthy of your attention. Encouragingly, we also have one of our longest ever contributor lists for this release," says Paul Davis.

Many bugs have been plugged in Ardour 4.1

In addition to the new functionality and UI improvements mentioned above, Ardour 4.1 is also a bugfix release that plugs many of the issues reported by users since the previous release of the software, Ardour 4.0. Among these, we can mention fixes for things like monitor-section polarity invert, a crash that occurred when attempting to switch backends, non-session manager support, and importing of old A2/A3 automation.

Moreover, there's no more noise and x-runs when opening and closing sessions, MCP receives several optimizations and fixes, the JACK buffersize is now properly displayed, the gain and fader LPF has been modified from 10Hz to 25Hz, two issues with stuck midi notes were repaired during save and automatic save, as well as when loop-range was present, and case insensitive comparison search now works for VST plugins.

Ardour is known as one of the best open-source and cross-platform digital audio workstation software. Download Ardour 4.1 for GNU/Linux and Mac OS X systems right now from Softpedia.
