Straight from Thessaloniki, Greece, the antiX development team has had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download of the final release of the antiX 15 GNU/Linux operating system.

After two Beta releases and an RC (Release Candidate) version, antiX 15 is finally here, based on the latest and greatest Debian GNU/Linux 8 (Jessie) operating system, and powered by Linux kernel 4.0.5, which has been customized with the with fbcondecor splash.

The distribution's codename is Killah P and does not include the systemd init system, nor the systemd-shim package. It offers various open-source applications, such as the LibreOffice 4.3.3 office suite, Iceweasel 31.7.0 ESR web browser, and Claws Mail 3.11.1-3 email client.

"A lot of time and work was spent getting antiX-15 (Killah P) ready for stable release; we hope you like it. [...] antiX-base and antiX-core versions use gzip compression of the squashfs/linuxfs file which means a faster boot to desktop with less RAM usage, but file size is approximately 80MB larger. antiX-full uses xz compression," reads the announcement.

Here are the applications pre-installed in antiX 15

In addition to the under-the-hood features mentioned above, antiX 15 includes a vast amount of open-source software, such as the XMMS audio player, GNOME MPlayer video player, daves-desktop desktop session organizer, SMTube YouTube video player, as well as streamlight-antix, a new tool that lets users stream videos on low-end machines.
