The development never stops for Ubuntu Touch

Grooveshark is no more, and the service was also removed from Ubuntu Touch, but the developers are working to replace that with something else, and it looks like something is in the works.

You don't really feel that you miss something until it's gone, and the same is happening with Grooveshark. That service was implemented in Ubuntu Touch right from the get-go, so when the service was discontinued, Ubuntu developers had to remove it from the phone as well. It might now feel like an important service, but we know now just how important it was.

Fortunately, other developers have also realized that Grooveshark was an important component. For example, David Calle has posted some of his early work for a media player. "Adding a fullscreen player experience to the unnamed-music-player-that-will-replace-most-of-my-grooveshark-use-cases. Design in progress," said David Calle on Google+.

Features are added all the time in Ubuntu

People might not realize this, but Ubuntu Touch is actually a very young platform. Only a few months have passed since the first phones with this new operating system were made available for purchase, so it's not a complete experience.

Each new OTA update brings new features, and it's nice to see that the interest in the OS is growing. It's still missing some critical applications, but efforts are being made to correct that as soon as possible.

The Grooveshark removal was just a temporary setback and not a real problem. In fact, if we take a look at what's currently available by default in Ubuntu Touch (at least for Meizu MX4), we'll see that there is already some competition there, like Soundcloud, among other things.

It will take more than a year until we are able to properly judge the operating system, so until then we can just sit back and watch how the OS is growing and expanding.
