14 DAY TRIAL // On July 24, Russian company ROSA proudly announced the immediate availability of a major release of their ROSA Desktop Fresh GNU/Linux operating system built around a highly customized KDE4 desktop environment.
According to the release notes, ROSA Desktop Fresh R6 is based on the company's ROSA 2014.1 platform, which means that it will receive software updates for a couple of years, until fall 2016. There are numerous changes to the pre-installed applications in ROSA Desktop Fresh R6, as well as updated software listed below. At the moment, the distro is powered by Linux kernel 3.14.44 LTS, but packages based on the Linux 4.1 LTS kernel series are also available in the default repositories, including KDE Plasma 5.

ROSA Desktop Fresh R6 contains many updated packages, including Mozilla Firefox 39.0 and Chromium 43.0.2357.134 web browsers, Mozilla Thunderbird 38.0.1 email and news client, LibreOffice 4.4.3 office suite, Audacity 2.1.0 audio editor, Kdenlive 15.04.3 video editor, Kmix 15.04.3 volume manager, as well as HPLIP 3.15.6, Mesa 10.5.3, PulseAudio 6.0, Qt 5.4.2, Qt 4.8.7, Qt Creator 3.4.1, Tcl/Tk 8.6.4, FFMpeg 2.5.6, and Hw-probe 0.9.2.
