Ubuntu app developer and open-source enthusiast Riccardo Padovani has had the great pleasure of informing Softpedia about his upcoming game for Canonical's Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system used on Ubuntu phone devices.

The game is called Falldown and it is an open-source clone of the Android game with the same name. Actually, there are versions of Falldown games for almost any mobile platform on the market.

Falldown is a fast-paced and addictive game where you have to tilt your device to control a ball while it falls down through holes of different sizes. The player's main goal is to avoid getting squished at the top.

We're received a copy of the Falldown game for Ubuntu Touch courtesy of Riccardo Padovani, who is currently on holiday, so on this occasion, we want to wish him a great and relaxing time and many thanks for sending in the game.

Tested on BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition

First of all, we should mention that fact that the game is coded by Riccardo Padovani, the music was created by Tyrel Parker, and the graphics was done by Michal Predotka.

We have tested the game on the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition smartphone, but it will work on any other device powered by the Ubuntu Touch operating system, including Meizu MX4, BQ Aquaris E5, and Nexus 4.

The version of the Falldown game received by Softpedia is currently in its early stages of development, but it is good enough for us to take an exclusive first look and share with you some screenshots and opinions.

As you can see from the screenshot attached at the end of the article, the game has a cartoonish artwork, but we can tell you that it works just like any other Falldown game out there.

It has a main menu where you can see your best score at all times as well as start a new game, view the about screen, and mute the sound. You have to tilt your Ubuntu phone to control the ball while it falls down.

The main goal of the game is to avoid getting squished at the top. Falldown for Ubuntu Touch has several powerups that either make the ball smaller or multiply it. There are, however, elements that you should avoid!

Available on Ubuntu Store from September

Falldown uses the Bacon 2D engine and it is released as open-source software, distributed for free under the GPLv3 license. The source code is available for free on Canonical's Launchpad website.

Riccardo Padovani informs us that the final version of the Falldown game for Ubuntu Touch will be available worldwide on the Ubuntu Store for Ubuntu phones sometime in September 2015.
