The Quad-Core version of the Banana Pi Single-board computer

After reporting last week news about the Ubuntu MATE 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) operating system running on the Banana Pi BPI-M1 SBC (Single-board computer) device, we're informing you today that Snappy Ubuntu Core runs on Banana Pi BPI-M2.

The guys and gals from the Banana Pi project have announced earlier today that they've managed to make the Ubuntu Snappy Core operating system from Canonical run on the Banana Pi BPI-M2 single-board computer. They've posted a few photos, attached at the end of the article, in case you don't believe us.

For those of you who don't know what Banana Pi BPI-M2 is, we kindly inform you that it's an open-source development SBC (Single-board computer) in the style of the well-known Raspberry Pi, powered by an A31S Quad-Core ARM7 processor running at 1Ghz, 1GB RAM, on-board Wi-Fi, and Gigabit Ethernet port.

"That sounds cool. Snappy Ubuntu is now able to run on BPI-M2 after efforts taken by the BPI team. In the future, we'll spend more time on IOT developments and applications, and we wish to have your support and encouragement as well. We will release a test image soon," says Justin from the Banana Pi team.

Ubuntu Snappy Core 15.04 image for Banana Pi BPI-M2 available now

Just a few minutes ago, while we were writing this piece of article, the Banana Pi developers introduced the first Beta release of the Ubuntu Snappy Core 15.04 image version 4.0 for Banana Pi BPI-M2, which is available for download right now from their website.

As expected, Banana Pi BPI-M2 is much better than Banana Pi BPI-M1 on which we saw Ubuntu MATE 15.04 running, and it is compatible with all sorts of operating systems, including Debian, Ubuntu, Android, or even Raspberry Pi images. However, please note that it does not include an SATA port, so you'll have to rely on a USB port. Happy testing!
