Perorder OSVR dev kit

VentureBeat reports that Razer announces the next update of the open source virtual reality (OSVR) development kit. The development kit is available for preorder on October 1, which will set you back $300. This release comes "with a full-HD 5.5-inch 120 Hz silver screen OLED display and can run at up to 60 frames-per-second."

In order to make OSVR accessible to all, the OSVR Hacker Development Kit is designed to be open source and affordable, without compromising on quality.

BrushFire Games + Vagrant and Steam Runtime

Supporting Linux is important for Brushfire Games. To assist in their efforts, and making development as easy as possible, they use Vagrant and Steam Runtime. Nick Gravelyn from Brushfire Games writes for Gamasura.com on how to set it up.

If you are planning to support Linux on Steam, perhaps this article will help you in setting up a build pipeline for your game. Vagrant and the Steam Runtime have been tremendous for us in being able to reliably produce builds that work on both 32- and 64-bit flavors of all distros supported by the Steam Runtime.

Pick of the week: Phaser.io

Phaser is a fun, free, and fast 2D game framework for making HTML5 games for desktop and mobile web browsers, supporting Canvas and WebGL rendering. Phaser is under active development, and released under the MIT License. Its code is available on GitHub.

New games out for Linux

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

Developed by asteroid base, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a multi award winning game. And, you don't have to be lovers to play it. The game "is certified fully compatible with roommates, siblings, parents, children, friends (and lovers too!)." It's available on Steam for Linux.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a frantic 1- or 2-player couch co-op action space shooter set in a massive neon battleship. Only through teamwork can you triumph over the evil forces of Anti-Love, rescue kidnapped space-bunnies, and avoid a vacuumy demise.

SOMA coming to Linux

SOMA, by Frictional Games, is coming to Linux and Steam, on September 22. As Linux Game News writes, Frictional Games "employed some epic level of fear" in this game. SOMA will also release on Steam, where a pre-purchase is already available with discount.

From the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent comes SOMA, a sci-fi horror game set below the waves of the Atlantic ocean. Struggle to survive a hostile world that will make you question your very existence.
