The developers of the Parsix GNU/Linux project had the great pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of the final version of the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) operating system.

Based on Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 "Jessie," Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0r0 is dubbed Mumble and is built around the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, which uses the modern GNOME Shell 3.16.3 user interface. Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0r0 is a major version that should be considered a replacement of Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5r0 (Rinaldo).

Prominent features of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0r0 (Mumble) include an updated graphical installer that received better UEFI support, many updated applications and core components (see below for details), as well as all the security patches and fixes from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux 8 repositories as of September 12, 2015.

Among the updated software included in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0, we can mention X.Org Server 1.16.4, Glibc 2.19, GRUB 2, GNU Iceweasel 40.0.3, Chromium 45.0, LibreOffice 4.3.3, VirtualBox 4.3.28, Gparted 0.19.0, GIMP 2.8.14, VLC Media Player 2.2.1, Empathy 3.12.10, Grisbi 1.0.0, and Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.508.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (code name Mumble) brings stable GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, a brand new kernel and an updated installer. This version has been synchronized with Debian Jessie repositories as of September 12, 2015," reads the announcement.

Ships with Linux kernel 4.1 LTS

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0r0 ships with a long-term kernel package, based on the Linux 4.1 series. As expected, the included kernel packages, which are based on the upstream Linux kernel 4.1.6 LTS, have been injected with some extra patches, such as TuxOnIce 3.3 and Brain Fuck Scheduler (BFS), for better performance.

Download Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0r0 (Mumble) right now from Softpedia, where you'll find Live DVD ISO images that contain software packages optimized for both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware architectures. Please note that the ISO images have been compressed using the latest XZ and SquashFS compression algorithms.
