The installer can be used for building Ubuntu Touch

We reported a month ago that an Android developer was trying to port the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra smartphone, which appears to have excited public interest to a considerable degree.

Pedro Dias Vicente is a senior XDA member, and he works really hard these days to bring Ubuntu for phones to that huge 6.4" mobile device a.k.a. phablet, which many of you apparently own and want Ubuntu on.

Today, the developer has been proud to announce that he managed to create an installer that will help build the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system for the Sony Xperia Z Ultra smartphone.

Since last evening, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra installer has a home on GitHub. It is written in Bash and will download everything needed to build Ubuntu for phones with the kernel of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra smartphone.

"I made a Sony Z Ultra installer through a bashing script," said Pedro Dias Vicente in an email to the Ubuntu Touch mailing list. "I've tried this script in the last few days, I hope to give the boot.img successful built through this installer."

Don't try Ubuntu Touch on Sony Xperia Z Ultra just yet

Unfortunately, we don't have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra device to test Mr. Vicente’s installer, and at this stage, we don't recommend anyone trying to flash Ubuntu Touch on that smartphone either.

We want to remind you that you can check the progress of the Ubuntu Touch's port for Sony Xperia Z Ultra on the developer's XDA page. We will keep you guys updated as we hear more from the developer.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a pretty powerful Android phone that boasts a Quad-Core 2.2 GHz Krait 400 CPU, an Adreno 330 GPU, an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera, and a non-removable Li-Ion 3050 mAh battery.
