Canonical's David Planella had the great pleasure of announcing a few moments ago, on October 21, the schedule and planning for the upcoming UbuCon Summit event.

What's UbuCon Summit? That's a very good question right there. Well, do you remember the Ubuntu Developer Summit (abbreviated UDS) that took place in different locations around the globe and managed to gather together the most important members of the Ubuntu community, which Mark Shuttleworth killed about two years ago and replaced with Ubuntu Online Summit (UOS)?

If you're a long-time member of the Ubuntu community, we're pretty sure that you remember UDS, the most important event in the history of Ubuntu, which took place twice a year, in spring and autumn, ahead of the major upcoming releases of the operating system. We're also pretty sure that many of you hated the Ubuntu Online Summit event, which took place online and never had the same notoriety.

Announcing UbuCon Summit

It took two long years for Canonical to realize that members of the Ubuntu community need to be close to each other to share their knowledge and plan the future of the Ubuntu Linux operating system for both PCs and mobile devices. Now, despite that fact that Ubuntu Online Summit aimed to provide an enhanced level of openness and transparency, they are thrilled to announce the UbuCon Summit event.

Yes! The UbuCon Summit conference is what every Ubuntu user has wished for in the last couple of years, and we're happy to inform you that the event will take place next year, between January 21 and 22, 2016. Where? In Pasadena, California, United States of America (USA), hosted at Pasadena Convention Center during the SCALE 14x Southern California Linux Expo.

Guess what? Mark Shuttleworth will be there to deliver his opening keynote, where he will (most probably) reveal a lot of juicy information about the next long-term support (LTS) release of the Ubuntu Linux operating system, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, whose codename is Xenial Xerus. So, be there if you care about the future of Ubuntu!
