The Kubuntu developers have implemented the latest packages

The new Kubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) has arrived with all the latest packages in the KDE family, including all the updates that have been recently released for the Plasma desktop.

Kubuntu is a Linux operating system based on KDE, and its makers are known for the fact that they usually integrate all the newest components from that desktop environment. The same can be said about the latest version, which features the most recent Plasma and a lot of cool other stuff.

We should also point out that their initial statement, from the first Alpha release for this branch, in which they said that the future of Kubuntu as an official flavor is rather unsure, seems to be gone now.

No mention has been made since then, and we can only hope that the problems between the Kubuntu developers and the Ubuntu Community Council have reached some sort of conclusion. It would be sad to see them go, especially since Kubuntu 15.10 seems to be a great release.

Kubuntu 15.10 comes with KDE Plasma 5.4.2

The latest version of Plasma, 5.4.2, was added just a couple of weeks ago and everything seems to be just fine, even if the new package landed after the feature freeze. This is the one with all the nice icons landing in Breeze.

Other important components, like KDE Applications for example, has been upgraded as well to version 15.08. In addition, just like the Ubuntu base, Kubuntu ships with Linux kernel 4.2.

"Plasma 5, the next generation of KDE's desktop has been rewritten to make it smoother to use while retaining the familiar setup. The fourth set of updates to Plasma 5 (current release, including the fixpack) is the default in this version of Kubuntu. Kubuntu comes with KDE Applications 15.08 containing all your favorite apps from KDE, including Dolphin. This is the first stability update, and contains bugfixes and translation updates. 107 applications have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5 but those which aren't should fit in seamlessly," reads the official announcement.

You can download the Kubuntu 15.10 distro right now from Softpedia and give it a spin.
