Linux kernel maintainer Willy Tarreau announced on December 5 the immediate availability for download of the sixty-ninth maintenance release of the Linux 2.6.32 LTS kernel series.

Linux 2.6.32 is the oldest long-term supported kernel version, which apparently it is still used on production servers across the entire Web. According to the appended shortlog, the 2.6.32.69 release brings updates to the x86 hardware architecture, along with several file system improvements, especially for the HFS, HFS+, NFS, and XFS filesystems. In numbers, there were 49 files changed, with 382 insertions and 140 deletions.

"I've just released Linux 2.6.32.69. The patch and changelog will appear soon at the following locations https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/longterm/v2.6.32/," said Willy Tarreau. "The updated 2.6.32.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-2.6.32.y http://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-2.6.32.y. The tree can be browsed on the gitweb interface: http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git/log/?h=linux-2.6.32.y."

Several drivers were updated

In addition to the file system and hardware architecture improvements, the Linux kernel 2.6.32.69 LTS release is here to update several drivers, especially for things like HID, MD, networking, SCSI, and USB. Moreover, it includes multiple mm and IPC (inter-process communication) enhancements, along with networking updates, mostly for IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, but also for things like SunRPC, RxRPC, and Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS).

As usual, we're urging all users of the Linux 2.6.32 LTS kernel series to upgrade to the latest release, version 2.6.32.69, as soon as possible. This can be done either by downloading the sources from the kernel.org website or via Softpedia and compiling it yourself by hand, or by updating the kernel packages of your GNU/Linux operating system from the default software repositories. More details about Linux kernel 2.6.32.69 LTS can be found in the official release announcement.
