Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak has sent his daily report for the day of December 15, 2015, to inform all Ubuntu Phone users about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers in preparation for the upcoming OTA software updates.

According to Mr. Zemczak, the testing for the soon-to-be-released OTA-8.5 hotfix is almost finished. This means that the software update should arrive for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices later today, December 16, 2015, but as usual, it will be phased out during the next 24 hours, so not all Ubuntu Phone users will receive it on the same day.

"OTA-8.5 testing almost finished, we will be releasing it tomorrow later in the UTC morning. Of course, the update will be phased out on the period of 24 hours before being available for everyone. There will be a proper announcement once that happens as always," said Łukasz Zemczak. "Once the OTA-8.5 release is over we will have more time to take a look at what important issues need attention over the nearest days."

Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 gets new features

The Ubuntu Touch OTA-8.5 update promises to fix some major bugs that have been reported by Ubuntu Phone users since the release of OTA-8. However, at the moment of writing this article there are no details about what exactly has been changed, and Mr. Zemczak informs us that the entire changelog will be published online after the update is sent out.

On the other hand, the Ubuntu Touch developers continue their hard work on implementing more awesome new features for the next major OTA version, the OTA-9, which is expected next year, on January 20. Therefore, they’ve managed to land new versions of the Unity Scope GDrive, Ubuntu System Settings Online Accounts, as well as the Signon UI packages, adding various improvements and bugfixes.
