14 DAY TRIAL // Immediately after LibreOffice 5.0.4 was released, the developers have already posted information about the first RC for LibreOffice 5.1.0, which is now also available for download and testing.
The Document Foundation and the developers that work on LibreOffice are not wasting any time, and they have already started to release RC versions for 5.1.0. It matters not that Christmas and New Year’s Eve are just around the corner, the changes and improvements keep on coming.
LibreOffice 5.0.4 was not a really big release, but it incorporated a fair number of fixes and other small improvements. That branch is still supported and will continue to receive a couple more updates. The launch of LibreOffice 5.1.0 doesn’t interfere with those plans in any way, especially since the released schedule is public and available to anyone.
LibreOffice 5.1.0 already looks interesting
We’re already used to these kinds of releases, but users need to know that they can have some problems if they choose to run this branch along with an older one, on the same system.
“The Linux and Mac packages can be installed in parallel to LibreOffice 5.0, but not run simultaneously - documents will be opened in the version you've started first,” developers explained in their official announcement.
According to the changelog, some GTK3+ and Wayland fixes have been implemented, unicode conversion shortcut like word (alt+x) has been added, images are no longer distorted diagonally on PDF export when OpenGL rendering is enabled, the recalculation formulas have been refined, frame and image alignment buttons are now using correct tooltips, and a number of other fixes have been added as well.
You can download LibreOffice 5.1.0 RC1 right now from Softpedia. Please keep in mind that it's a development version, and it's not meant for production machines. A couple more RCs are already on their way, and the stable version for LibreOffice 5.1.0 is expected to arrive on February 1, at the earliest.
