14 DAY TRIAL // Canonical is getting closer to its convergence goal, and it looks like it started to tease the users about some upcoming big news.
Among the most anticipated news of 2016 is the release of a new convergent device that's been in the works for quite some time. It will be able to run both as a mobile phone and as a standalone desktop, or at least that is the plan.
After the Ubuntu Touch operating system for mobile devices had become stable, the Ubuntu team began to focus more on the desktop side of things, and it's been making great progress. In fact, the two systems are finally coming together in a more unified way, and it seems that Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will be the first version to really underline this feature.
What is Canonical teasing?
Canonical left a cryptic message on the Google+ account, saying just, "The same Ubuntu experience across any device - coming soon." Since we follow what they are doing for quite a while, we can say with a certain degree of accuracy that they are talking about a new device.
Mark Shuttleworth announced a while back that Bq was working on a new phone that would be powerful and capable of video output, which is a must-have feature. The launch date for that device should have been 2015, but it slipped into 2016.
This is most likely what Canonical is saying on Google+. Either it's this or they have started the hype for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS really early, and they want people to know that the system will be capable of such performance.
