As its version number suggests, OpenSuSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 has been based on the openSUSE Leap 42.1 computer operating system, which means that it inherits all of its features and software. However, openSUSE Edu Li-f-e (Linux for Education) includes a broad range of education applications for both students and teachers.
Therefore, openSUSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 has been officially declared the only enterprise-grade and long-term supported (LTS) GNU/Linux distribution designed from the ground up to be deployed and used in the educational system, including schools, universities, and public domains.

It ships with KDE Plasma, GNOME and MATE
The openSUSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 operating system ships with the KDE Plasma 5, GNOME 3 and MATE desktop environments, out-of-the-box multimedia support, support for 64-bit computers, as well as hundreds of software packages that have been designed for educational purposes.
Additionally, openSUSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 can be turned into a full-features LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) server and deployed to PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) boot capable machines in a local network area (LAN). The Live ISO image is available for download from Softpedia and can be booted on 32-bit and 64-bit systems.
