Jigish Gohil has had the great pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of the openSUSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 operating system targeted at schools and educational institutions.

As its version number suggests, OpenSuSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 has been based on the openSUSE Leap 42.1 computer operating system, which means that it inherits all of its features and software. However, openSUSE Edu Li-f-e (Linux for Education) includes a broad range of education applications for both students and teachers.

Therefore, openSUSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 has been officially declared the only enterprise-grade and long-term supported (LTS) GNU/Linux distribution designed from the ground up to be deployed and used in the educational system, including schools, universities, and public domains.

"The best Linux distribution for education got a whole lot better, your Li-f-e(Linux for Education) takes a 'Leap' to 42.1," said Jigish Gohil. "openSUSE Education community is proud to present this latest edition based on openSUSE 42.1 with all the features, updates and bug fixes available on it till date."

It ships with KDE Plasma, GNOME and MATE

The openSUSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 operating system ships with the KDE Plasma 5, GNOME 3 and MATE desktop environments, out-of-the-box multimedia support, support for 64-bit computers, as well as hundreds of software packages that have been designed for educational purposes.

Additionally, openSUSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 can be turned into a full-features LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) server and deployed to PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) boot capable machines in a local network area (LAN). The Live ISO image is available for download from Softpedia and can be booted on 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

Those of you who would like to PXE boot the openSUSE Edu Li-f-e 42.1 operating system on machines below i686 (32-bit) will have to download and install a package that has been provided by the project's developers in the release announcement, where you can also find the complete list of pre-installed software.
