14 DAY TRIAL // Zbigniew Konojacki has had the great pleasure of informing us earlier today about the release and immediate availability for download of the final build of his 4MLinux 15.0 GNU/Linux operating system.
4MLinux 15.0 has been in development for the last two months, as the Beta release was introduced by Mr. Konojacki around mid-November 2015. During this time, the 4MLinux team announced the release of many other distributions based on the Beta build of 4MLinux 15.0, including 4MParted, 4MRescueKit, and 4MRecover.
The final build of 4MLinux 15.0 is here to bring many improvements over previous versions of the distribution, as well as to add support for some useful open source applications, such as the powerful Audacity digital audio editor, which users can install via a downloadable extension. Mr. Konojacki informs us that he has managed to build Audacity with support for FFMpeg.
GRUB can be installed as the default boot manager
Moreover, it is now possible to install the GNU GRUB bootloader as the default boot manager in 4MLinux 15.0, even if you're running the operating system in text mode, without the pretty desktop environment, such as the 4MLinux Server edition. All you have to is to run the "update-grub" command in a terminal.
Among other interesting features introduced in 4MLinux 15.0, we can mention the addition of LXDE's LXInput and LXRandR tools, which can be used to configure various devices the user might have attached to his/her computer more easily; the Postfix mail server is now installed by default in the 4MLinux LAMP Server edition; and InfraRecorder tool is now part of the Wine extension.
"It was a challenge for me to make them work in 4MLinux: both the utilities generate input for my script, which creates the autostart file for JWM, and the rest is done by small X tools (xmodmap, xrandr and xset)," said Zbigniew Konojacki, 4MLinux developer and project leader, in the email received at the Softpedia HQ.
