2015 was quite an eventful year for the Solus Project, as the development team managed to bring us one of the most modern and up-to-date Linux kernel-based operating systems and desktop environments.

Solus 1.0 was finally released in the last days of December 2015, after a few delays, but it looks like it is here to stay. Josh Strobl has just announced the sixteenth installation of the project's weekly newsletter, which is also the first one for 2016 and the first one after the release of Solus 1.0.

"Welcome to the 16th installation of This Week in Solus. This is the first installation since the great 1.0 release, which happened last week, as well as being the first of 2016! I opted to not have three blog posts in the span of two days last week, that’d be a tad excessive," says Josh Strobl in today's announcement.

According to the Solus developers, it would appear that Solus 1.0 was installed by numerous users, as it started to rain with bug reports and package requests. Therefore, today we're happy to inform all Solus users that the operating system has received crypto optimizations in the Linux kernel 4.3 packages, along with Wacom support improvements.

Wacom support can now be configured directly from GNOME Control  Center. Moreover, the printer detection should now work as expected, but it would appear that there's still an issue with the printer filter, as well as a communication problem between the printer and the printer server (CUPS), both of which will be resolved in the coming days.

What's new for Budgie

The Budgie desktop environment has been updated to version 10.2.2, and it has received quite a few improvements, such as support for the Fedora 23 and OpenSuSE Linux operating systems, support for over 20 languages, Mumble notification fixes, better support for Mozilla Firefox in the panel, tray icon fixes, and some screen resolution changes.

Of course, numerous important packages have been updated to their latest versions released as of January 3, 2016, and a few new ones have been added. Among them, we can mention Mozilla Firefox 43.0.3, Scribus 1.4.5, Audacious 3.7.1, Gnumeric 1.12.25, LibreOffice 5.0.4.2, youtube-dl 2016.01.01, and Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.559. All Solus users are urged to update their installations as soon as possible.
