14 DAY TRIAL // It looks like the Ubuntu Touch team has added more impressive improvements and new features to the upcoming OTA-9 software update for Ubuntu Phone devices, as we have just been informed by Łukasz Zemczak about the latest landings for the day of January 8, 2016.
According to Mr. Zemczak, Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 has seen some good releases today, as the team of hard-working developers have managed to add a new version of the indicator-network, which features several improvements to the VPN editor, fixes various issues for the Web Browser app, as well as updates the Ubuntu Keyboard to UITK 1.3.
Furthermore, the Ubuntu Touch devs have managed to land new and improved versions of the Unity 8 user interface, as well as several of its components, such as Unity API, Unity Scopes Shell, and Unity Scope Mediascreener, which is a new feature for in-car music playback.
"Sadly we didn't get the new custom tarballs for our devices yet, so this has been postponed till sometime next week," said Łukasz Zemczak. "Also, a small but noticeable change: as proposed by Jean-Baptiste from QA, we have shifted the rc-proposed build dates by a day meaning that now the last image will be built on Saturday UTC morning."
More new features are coming soon
Today has been quite a good day for landings, as the Ubuntu Touch developers have also managed to update the indicator-power component, adding support for "low battery" sounds, which should be played automatically by the operating system when there are battery notifications. Of course, more new features are coming soon.
The final release of the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 software update will happen at the end of the month, on January 27, 2016, but until then, Ubuntu Phone users will be able to test the latest features listed in this article and previous ones published this week during the weekends.
