14 DAY TRIAL // Today Oracle has announced the release of the VirtualBox 5.0.14 open-source and cross-platform virtualization software for all supported operating systems, including GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows.
According to the release notes, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference, Oracle VirtualBox 5.0.14 is a modest release, the smallest in the 5.0 series if we look at the changes, fixing various issues that have been reported by users since the previous maintenance build, VirtualBox 5.0.12.
Among the changes, we can notice support for appropriately limiting the number of virtual processors to the number of physical cores on Mac OS X platforms, proper reporting of two attached floppy drives in the BIOS, better audio capture on Mac OS X, as well as better USB support on the Mac OS X El Capitan operating system.
Initial Linux kernel 4.5 support landed
For Linux users, VirtualBox 5.0.14 brings initial support for the upcoming Linux 4.5 kernel, which has not even been released yet as a Release Candidate build. Also for Linux platforms, the new VirtualBox maintenance release adds proper support for creating the /sbin/rcvboxdrv symbolic link, fixing a regression from VirtualBox 5.0.12.
Furthermore, an audio bug that prevented the loading of a saved guest's state with HDA emulation has been fixed, another audio bug has been patched as well (it could crash the app if the backend wasn't initialized), and a crash that occurred when attempting to attach the same ISO image over and over to the same virtual machine has been patched.
Last but not least, the new VirtualBox update fixes a USB issue related to filters, blacklists Extension Packs older than version 4.3.30 due to some incompatibilities, and addresses a regression for Windows OSes.
