Canonical, through Łukasz Zemczak, has announced today that the highly anticipated Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 update for Ubuntu Phone devices has been officially released and that the phased upgrade has kicked in.

According to Mr. Zemczak, the OTA-9 update has been received well by Ubuntu Phone users, but only those lucky enough to get it in the first hours. However, the rest of them should be able to upgrade to OTA-9 in the coming hours, so make sure you keep checking for updates regularly.

"OTA-9 phased upgrades are in progress! Just in a little while all users should be able to upgrade. We're also really happy that the update itself was so nicely welcomed," says Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations, in his daily report, which we received as an e-mail dated January 27, 2016.

Next stop, OTA-9.5

The Ubuntu Touch developers continue their work on the OTA-9.5 hotfix update, for which today they have managed to land a new Ubuntu System Settings app that adds fixes for the Bluetooth panel, as well as a new Ubuntu Touch Meta package that includes a new touch framework for all the upcoming features.

As reported a few days ago, the OTA-9.5 hotfix will enter final freeze on January 29 and will land for all Ubuntu Phone users on February 10, 2016. Then, the devs can finally concentrate all of their efforts on the next major update, OTA-10, which will bring even more cool features.

Other than that, the Ubuntu Touch team has announced plans for the removal of the Nexus 10 (manta) images from the official servers, as it is no longer supported and they don't have the manpower to keep it updated with the latest features. Existing work will be passed to the community, to those who want to continue the port.
