Immediately after announcing the release of Linux kernel 3.14.63 LTS, kernel developer Greg Kroah-Hartman published details about the ninety-ninth maintenance build of the long-term supported Linux 3.10 kernel series.

According to the diff from the previous point release, Linux kernel 3.10.99 LTS is a fairly normal update that packs in better hardware support by updating several drivers, in particular for things like GPU (mostly Radeon), InfiniBand, MD, SCSI, USB, ATA, DVB, and MMC.

Additionally, it contains various improvements to the MIPS, x86, SPARC, ARC, and s390 hardware architectures, some fixes to the Btrfs, NFS, and procfs filesystems, along with minor changes to the scripts, tools, Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), and core kernel components.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.10.99 kernel. All users of the 3.10 kernel series must upgrade," said Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.10.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

The networking stack has been updated as well

Besides the updated drivers and the improvements to the architectures and filesystems mentioned above, the ninety-ninth maintenance release of Linux kernel 3.10 LTS also enhances the networking stack with small changes and bugfixes to things like mac80211, Ceph, Netfilter, rfkill, SunRPC, and Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS).

In numbers, Linux kernel 3.10.99 LTS changes a total of 98 files, with 476 insertions and 281 deletions. Those using a Linux kernel-based operating system powered by a kernel from the long-term supported Linux 3.10 kernel series are urged to update to the 3.10.99 maintenance release as soon as possible, or more precisely, as soon as the update arrives in the main software repositories of the respective distribution.
