The KDE Project announced today the general availability of the second point release to their latest KDE Plasma 5.17 desktop environment for Linux-based operating systems.

Coming just a week after the first point release, KDE Plasma 5.17.2 is here with another batch of bug fixes across a wide range of components, including Plasma Discover, Plasma Workspace, Plasma Desktop, KWin, System Settings, KMenuEdit, Breeze GTK, and Dr Konqi. This maintenance update contains a total of 27 changes, as detailed here.

"Today KDE releases a bugfix update to KDE Plasma 5, versioned 5.17.2. Plasma 5.17 was released in October 2019 with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience. This release adds a week's worth of new translations and fixes from KDE's contributors. The bugfixes are typically small but important," reads today's announcement.

Highlights of KDE Plasma 5.17.2 include the ability to randomize new batches of images in the slideshow and to seed random number generator for wallpapers, support for more formats of AppStream URLs in Plasma Discover, a new hover effect on the intro page icon in the System Settings sidebar, as well as reimplementation of checkbox recolouring in Breeze GTK.

KDE Plasma 5.17.3 scheduled for release on November 12th

The next point release for the KDE Plasma 5.17 desktop environment will be KDE Plasma 5.17.3, which is currently scheduled for release on November 12th with even more bug fixes and updated or new translations. Until then, we recommend updating your installations to the KDE Plasma 5.17.2 release as soon as possible.

If you're running KDE Plasma 5.17.1, you should soon find the KDE Plasma 5.17.2 packages in the stable software repositories of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution. The release cycle of the KDE Plasma 5.17 desktop environment will include two more point releases, KDE Plasma 5.17.4 on December 3rd, and KDE Plasma 5.17.5 on January 7th, 2020.
